The Department of Entrepreneurship of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (located in San Sebastian, Spain) invites you to apply for the position of Senior Researcher.  The deadline for the submission of applications is March 31st.

Senior Researcher, Entrepreneurship Department (Ref.: 2010RRHH04)

The successful candidate will join the Entrepreneurship Department, which studies the relationship and impact of entrepreneurial activity on regional competitiveness. In this frame of study, he/she will be under the supervision of the Department Director, carrying out activities in: Investigation research, Interaction with the various social and economic agents composing the Basque entrepreneurial ecosystem, and specialized Instruction in the area of creating and developing entrepreneurial projects. Will participate in international, national and local networks to develop various activities. Will also collaborate with researchers from the Institute’s other departments to develop a series of topics and specific activities. The general topics of study and conceptual foundations of the Entrepreneurship Department are:

 

*         Business demography.

*         Entrepreneurship with high potential: Innovation and internationalization of startup companies.

*         Intra-preneurial activity of existing businesses (spin-offs).

*         Entrepreneurial ecosystem and regional competitiveness.

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. from a prestigious university. Should also have at least 7 years of experience and a demonstrated capacity for leadership and coordinating research groups. Must have previously contributed as both a leader and author in research projects with competitive external funding, and have authored books or articles published in renowned international journals. Should have a demonstrated academic recognition and access to networks of excellence.

 

Requirements: fluency in English and basic/intermediate knowledge of Spanish. Should also have experience in the following fields of knowledge: financial management for entrepreneurs; business angels and venture capital; and entrepreneurship and regional competitiveness.

 

The opening is for a full-time permanent position at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness. Can be completed with teaching at the Deusto Business School and/or University of Deusto, provided that all parties are interested (Orkestra included).

 

Remuneration will be based on the candidate’s merits and experience. Expected start date no: later than September 2010.

Post-doc Researchers (Ref: 2010RRHHPD)


The Basque Institute of Competitiveness is pleased to announce the opening of a variable number of Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The program’s mission is to bring in researchers who have recently earned a Ph.D. from prestigious universities. The selected researcher will further develop his/her knowledge about the key factors affecting the competitiveness of a region and its businesses in a globalized environment by applying that knowledge to the economic and social reality of the Basque Country.

 

Applicants must have completed their doctorate between August 1, 2007, and July 31, 2010. Should demonstrate personal criteria for dealing with problems of certain complexity using diverse solutions. This implies compiling, analyzing and evaluating information based on the data and entails arriving at recommendations or decisions in their focus area for activities involving the so-called 3’is of the Institute—Investigation research, Interaction, and Instruction.

 

Requirements: fluent English and basic/intermediate knowledge of Spanish.

 

The successful candidate will join the research team of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness.

The Institute comprises approximately 30 researchers and support staff and is currently expanding and reinforcing its working areas. The successful candidate will conduct his/her research within one of three departments:

 

*         Regional Development and Innovation Systems;

*         Entrepreneurship; and

*         Strategy.

 

The opening is for a one-year contract, with possibility of extension up to three years. Remuneration will be based on the candidate’s merits and experience. Starting date: Fall 2010 (Application deadline: March 31, 2010).

Ph.D. study grants (Ref: 2010RRHHD)


The Basque Institute of Competitiveness is offering grants for:

 

1)Students looking to undertake Ph.D. studies in the area of competitiveness, within the doctoral program “Business Competitiveness and Economic Development” offered by the Basque Institute of Competitiveness and the University of Deusto. Selected students will join one of the Institute’s areas of Investigation, developing research papers on:

 

*         Regional development and growth, Innovation Systems, and Territorial Competitiveness

*         Entrepreneurial Capacity

*         Clusters and Regional Development

 

2) Ph.D. students whose research focus is one of the Institute’s areas of interest and Investigation and who wish to undertake a fellowship at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness.

 

The minimum fellowship period is between 3 months and 1 year.

 

FOR BOTH CASES, PARTICULAR VALUE WILL BE PLACED ON CANDIDATES WHO ARE RECIPIENTS OF A GRANT FOR PURSUING THEIR PH.D.

 

The selected student will join the research team of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra), founded in 2006 and affiliated with the University of Deusto. The Institute’s mission is to engage in Investigation of excellence, specialized Insight, and Interaction with the relevant agents of competitiveness—regional and local governments, national and European government, businesses, and intermediary organizations (technology centers, cluster associations, etc.)—as a means of strengthening the competitiveness of the Basque economy and society in a globalized environment fully aware of the need to promote sustainable development.
