CALL FOR PAPERS

For Special Issue in ACADEMIA Revista Latinoamericana de Administración

No. 45, second half of 2010

Business creation in the Latin American context:

from a Global Entrepreneurship Monitor perspective

ACADEMIA Revista Latinoamericana de Administración was recently indexed at ISI© (Social Science Citation Index). For this special issue we invite researchers to use the extensive Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) database to investigate Latin America and the Caribbean. GEM is the world’s largest international research project focusing on the topic of business creation, with more than 60 countries participating since 1999. Latin America and the Caribbean region has the second highest regional participation rate (after Europe) with 13 countries having participated in the GEM project.

The GEM website (www.gemconsortium.org) lists several articles that use GEM data. Furthermore, the GEM datasets from 1999 to 2005 are available for everyone to freely download and use. For access to the latest data, interested researchers should contact the appropriate to GEM researchers (contact information is at  http://gemconsortium.org/national_teams.aspx )

By inviting scholars to research and explore GEM data, we hope to support the continuing evolution of GEM and to gain greater recognition and representation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

·          The figure of the entrepreneur in creating new businesses (attitudes, activities and aspirations).

·          Links between the individual level  (the entrepreneur) and macro level (growth, productivity and competitiveness).

·          Comparing entrepreneurship conditions among countries or regions. This includes contrasting Latin America with other regions or countries.

·          New venture strategies (innovation, industrial sectors, internationalization, etc.).

·          Gender, minorities or ethnic groups’ issues.

·          New venture funding (informal investors, business angels, etc.).

·          Research linking GEM with other data sources and their implications for management.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published nor be under consideration for another publication. The journal accepts contributions in English, Spanish and Portuguese. All papers are refereed through a peer review process. All work will follow the style guidelines and considerations determining by the editorial board of ACADEMIA.
