“GEM data tells a remarkable story about entrepreneurship over some 24 years,” said GEM Executive Director Aileen Ionescu-Somers. “The 2023 GEM participating teams are able to provide a narrative about entrepreneurship to policymakers who can then make informed decisions that pave the way for more successful, high-quality entrepreneurship in their countries.”
Building on this progress, GEM is keen to further increase the number of teams. GEM is the only global research project that collects data on entrepreneurship directly from the source—entrepreneurs! It is one-stop shop for everything one needs to know about entrepreneurship in a particularly country.
Primarily associated with top academic institutions, participating teams are part of the prestigious GEM Global Reports as well National Reports that include international benchmarking, local context and national entrepreneurship policy recommendations. By becoming involved with GEM:
- Academics are able to apply unique methodological approaches to studying entrepreneurship at the national level.
- Policymakers are able to make-better informed decisions to help entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial ecosystems thrive.
- Entrepreneurs have better knowledge on where to invest sometimes scarce resources and how to influence key stakeholders so that they get the support they need.
- Sponsors both advance their organizational interests and gain a higher profile through their association with GEM. (National Teams are responsible for raising funding for GEM activities in their country. Most common sources of sponsorship come from academic institutions, local and national governments, foundations, aid agencies and banks).
- International organizations leverage insights, but can also incorporate or integrate GEM indicators to their own data sets, or use GEM data as a benchmark for their own analyses.
