The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2026 Report Launch and Annual Meeting will be hosted in Mexico, marking an exciting milestone for the country’s long-standing involvement in the GEM research network. The event will take place at Tecnológico de Monterrey, the lead institution for GEM Mexico, and will bring together entrepreneurship experts, policymakers, and researchers from around the world.
GEM is the only global research initiative that gathers first-hand data directly from entrepreneurs, offering a unique perspective on the entrepreneurial landscape. Each year, GEM surveys approximately 160,000 individuals, capturing critical insights into their motivations, ambitions, challenges, and the broader social attitudes toward entrepreneurship. The key findings are highlighted in the GEM Global Report, offering a comprehensive overview of entrepreneurship trends worldwide. Nearly 60 GEM National Teams and hundreds of researchers will contribute to the 2025/2026 edition.
Participants at the Report Launch will gain exclusive access to the GEM 2025/26 Global Report. They will hear from expert speakers and panelists who will share actionable strategies to drive entrepreneurial growth and innovation. The event will provide valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with global leaders, researchers, and practitioners shaping the future of entrepreneurship.
“GEM Mexico has been a key contributor to entrepreneurship research for 20 years, setting a strong example of how a GEM Team can drive impact at both national and regional levels,” said GEM Executive Director Aileen Ionescu-Somers. “The 2026 Report Launch and Annual Meeting will be a fantastic opportunity to bring the GEM community together to engage with stakeholders shaping Mexico’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and unpack the key insights from GEM’s research.”
"This year’s GEM event in Bilbao was fantastic, with high standards, engaging discussions, and plenty of learning,” said GEM Mexico Team Co-Leader and Project Coordinator José Manuel Aguirre. “We are excited about building on this. Tecnológico de Monterrey, a national hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, and business development, is developing innovation-driven strategies and an entrepreneurship district. Attendees will experience first-hand how entrepreneurship is embedded into the city’s ecosystem. We look forward to welcoming you all to our Monterrey Campus in 2026!"
A Legacy of Entrepreneurship Research in Mexico
GEM Mexico has played a pivotal role in entrepreneurship research and policy development for two decades. Over the years, its insights have shaped federal and regional policies, influencing small business support programs and entrepreneurial ecosystem development across the country. By analysing entrepreneurship across different regions of Mexico, GEM has provided critical data to better understand how new businesses emerge and grow in a diverse economic landscape.
Aguirre stated: "Mexico has been part of GEM for 20 years. We have seen several impacts, including policies at the federal level that promoted entrepreneurship, as well as government programs that provided sponsorships for small businesses and startups. Over time, these efforts expanded to different regions, allowing us to better understand how entrepreneurship varies across a large and diverse country."
At the GEM Gala Dinner in Bilbao this past February, GEM Mexico was honored for its 20 years of participation. Additionally, José Ernesto Amorós Espinosa, Team Co-Leader of GEM Mexico, received the Extraordinary Service to GEM Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership as outgoing Board Chair and his lasting contributions to the GEM network.
