The GEM Ecuador 2024–2025 report shows that the country maintains one of the highest early-stage entrepreneurship rates in the region, driven largely by necessity rather than opportunity, while intentions to start a business have fallen and fear of failure has increased. The entrepreneurial ecosystem remains weak, with limited access to finance, low technological adoption, and a strong concentration of ventures in consumer-focused sectors. Although environmental awareness is growing among entrepreneurs, knowledge of the SDGs is still low, and most entrepreneurs have modest educational levels. Despite these challenges, Ecuadorian entrepreneurs demonstrate resilience, with many expressing willingness to reattempt entrepreneurship even after business closure.
