In order to assist policy makers in ASEAN to make more informed decisions about how to increase entrepreneurship and enhance SME development, both within their own countries and in the region as a whole, it is important that the current entrepreneurial landscape be defined and understood. In 2014, six Southeast Asian countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – participated in the GEM survey. This report highlights significant national differences in some aspects of entrepreneurial activity in the six countries; however, enough similarities exist to provide a basis on which to build appropriate policies for the regional promotion of entrepreneurship, job creation and inclusive growth.
