High Income

Based on the income levels set out by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in its Global Competitiveness Report. However, the groupings are slightly different due to the numbers of economies covered. For GEM, the low income group contains both those classified as low income and lower middle by WEF, and the middle income group has those that WEF groups as upper middle. High income is the same for both GEM and WEF.

  • National report in Slovak language with English Summary. https://www.fakultamanagementu.sk/GEM_2019/index.html Entrepreneurs rarely saw entrepreneurial opportunities, even if they had good knowledge in the field. In this component, Slovakia was above the average of all benchmarks, i.e. a larger percentage of the population rarely saw opportunities, which also indicated a weak internal perception of opportunities by individuals. Even though people notice a lucrative opportunity, they rarely respond to it. There was the same trend in this component as in the previous one. This again confirmed, from another perspective, our weakness in terms of entrepreneurial opportunities and their use. Other people think of an individual as being highly innovative. Even in this self-assessment aspect, Slovaks were very critical and a significantly lower percentage of them thought that others think they are highly innovative than the average of the compared benchmarks. Every decision is part of the long-term career plan of the respondent. Only in this component were Slovaks above the average of the benchmarks, and thus it seems the career planning had been a strength of the Slovak population.

  • Slovakia had a relatively high early-stage entrepreneurial activity (TEA) in 2016. However, this high early-stage entrepreneurial activity was achieved in 2016 mainly because of the high entrepreneurial activity of nascent entrepreneurs (up to 3 months). Even though in 2016 there was a slight increase in the established entrepreneurial activity. In 2016, there had been a long-standing high rate of business discontinuation. In the period under review 11,3 % of men and 7,6 % of women were involved in the early-stage entrepreneurial activity and in Slovakia.
